Barb and George did a wonderful job of keeping Jeff at home for many years until they finally found help through the Robin Hood Association. The injuries were overwhelming Jeff experienced a life altering brain injury that would require him to have constant care for the rest of his life. Barbara continued to support the library every year with donations and assisting with the talking books program at the library.īarb's nursing acumen was instrumental, when in 1974 their son Jeff was struck by a vehicle. Although Barbara now concentrated her time on being a mother to her children, she continued her passion for learning and reading and joined the Library in the Fort where for 40 years she served as both a volunteer and Director of the Board. In 1972, with a new posting with Dow Chemical the family moved to Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

Barbara and her husband George met while in high school and they married after Barbara graduated as a Registered Nurse and George graduated from Western University with a Degree in Chemistry. The Travers ran a respected corner store on Quebec Street for many years and her childhood family home still stands there today.īarbara was an excellent student and attended the nursing program at Western University and the University of Waterloo. Barbara Marshall (nee Traver) was born in London, Ontario to Frederick and Edith Traver on April 20, 1934.
